OCF Job Opening

We’re looking for one person.

The Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF) is a national nonprofit built differently from the start: lean, focused, innovative, and unusually effective.

We help individuals facing oral cancer find answers, understand their treatment options, access community support, and navigate the fear that comes with a diagnosis — and we fund research that changes clinical practice.

For more than two decades, we’ve earned the trust of patients, clinicians, scientists, and families — not through size, but through results. If you already know who we are, you understand that the impact of this work is personal, direct, and lasting.

We’re now looking for one person who will learn this mission up close and grow into a role that will shape OCF’s future.

Who you are.

You are sharp, curious, and driven by meaningful work — not titles.

You can write clearly, think deeply, and learn fast.

You’re the kind of person who asks the following question rather than waiting for someone to tell you what to do. You notice tone, intention, and the emotional weight of communication — because it matters.

This is not a typical job.

This is a chance to help lead a mission by learning it from the inside — directly from OCF’s founder — through months of close collaboration.

Experience matters, but not in the way most job postings mean it. You may already have meaningful experience. You may be in a role that doesn’t fit who you are or what you want to become. This role is shaped by what you bring to it, not by a fixed job description.

How this works.

At the start, you’ll be working closely in Santa Fe.

Proximity matters — not for appearances, but because the way this mission works is taught through real interaction, the kind you can’t get through email.

The founder you’ll be learning from has speech challenges related to past cancer treatment. Many who work with him regularly have adapted quickly — it simply requires attentive listening, patience, and a willingness to ask clarifying questions.

If you cannot understand the person teaching you, this will not work.

If you learn quickly and build on that, it will.

Over time, as you absorb the mission and demonstrate independent capability, the work can transition to your own space. Travel is part of this — you’ll represent OCF in national settings, events, and meetings.

This begins part-time.

For the right person, it becomes full-time quickly, with appropriate compensation growth.

This role can expand rapidly. If your work shows you can carry the mission, your responsibilities and compensation will grow accordingly. Where this leads depends on what you bring, what you become, and what OCF needs.

How to express interest

No standard résumé is required.

Send three short things to: [email protected]

1. A short note on why this opportunity matters to you.

Not what you think we want to hear — just the truth.

2. A sample of your writing.

Anything that reflects your thinking and your voice.

3. A brief timeline of what you’ve done so far.

Not a corporate résumé — just the path that brought you here.

We don’t hire by checklist.

We look for people who can learn the mission, embody its values, and carry it forward long after the founders are gone.

If that’s you, we want to hear from you.
